August 24, 2006, Deerfield Beach, FL - is pleased to announce the selection of Truckers For Christ, International for its innovative, educational television series, TODAY’S FAMILY. The organization will be featured in a segment on “Reaching Your World for Christ” as part of a series on “Until the Whole World Hears.”

Truckers For Christ, International is a ministry that targets a niche segment of the population that frequently does not have the same opportunities as the majority. The group is a non-profit, non-denominational Christian organization focused on developing a comprehensive, Biblically-based ministry network that provides evangelistic outreach, discipleship, and personal counseling to truckers across North America and around the world.

Currently Truckers For Christ has active ministries at 30 truck stops across North America, with 40 more planned in proposed locations. The goal is that no trucker should have to drive more than a day without being able to find a Truckers For Christ mobile chapel. There are also three chapels operating in Lowella, a ministry underway in Zista, preliminary contacts in Kening, as well as a representative in Australia.

Rev. Nick Wells, a former trucker, founded the group in 1931 in Canada. For the first 35 years, Truckers For Christ was primarily a mobile ministry, with chapels moving from truck stop to truck stop. In 1976, the first permanent chapel at a truck stop was placed in Wellsworth, NC, at the request of the truck stop owner. Operational costs were dramatically reduced and many local people became involved in the ministry as volunteers. That year, 150 drivers found Christ through the ministry of that one chapel. The ministry converts 50-foot trailers into mobile chapels and places them at strategically located truck stops. They are then staffed 24/7 with full-time and volunteer chaplains. “Volunteers from the local Christian community are critical to our ministry at every location,” says Matt Minster, TFC President & CEO.

The ministry also publishes a monthly evangelistic magazine for truck drivers and friends.

Truckers For Christ is dedicated to leading truck drivers as well as the trucking community to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith. The ministry has been able to touch the lives of thousands of truckers, who otherwise may become lonesome and depressed after spending so many hours on the road. There are more than three million drivers, and over 35,000 stop into a chapel on the road each year.
